Since 2004, SAGE Paris is proud to have followed in the steps of Ann and Jürgen Wilde, of Cologne’s Galerie Wilde, which, in the 1960s, was the first European gallery to show forgotten Masters of German photography, such as Karl Blossfeldt, Albert Renger- Patzsch and August Sander. Galerie Wilde was also instrumental in the rediscovery of Germaine Krull, Florence Henri and Piet Zwart, as well as in discovering Duane Michals and Les Krims.
Our particular interest in Masterworks of photography of the nineteenth- and twentieth-century has led us, from the beginning of the gallery, to present museum quality exhibitions with seminal works such as vintage prints of Karl Blossfeldt.
Our 2006 exhibition ‘April in Paris’ featured vintage prints of Eugène Atget, André Kertész, Germaine Krull, George Hoyningen-Huene, Florence Henri, Werner Rohde, Edward Steichen, Maurice Tabard and Else Thalemann.
‘No opening, no reception, all about looking’, again in 2006, showed vintage prints of Anna Atkins, Charles Aubry, August Kotzsch, André Kertész, Marcel Broodthaers, Man Ray, Duane Michals, Helmut Newton, William Eggleston, and an overwhelming 1846 print of the Bridge of Sighs by W.H.F. Talbot.
With ‘Exquisite Shadows’, in 2007, we showed two extraordinary vintage prints by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and the magnificent vintage print Chaises au Jardin des Tuileries by André Kertész.
Our « André Kertész », in 2009, organized in collaboration with Stephen Daiter Gallery, Chicago and Galerie Berinson, Berlin, showed exceptional vintage prints of the great artist.. |
